森達也監督の名を広く知らしめたのは、1998年に発表されたドキュメンタリー映画『A』だ。地下鉄サリン事件後のオウム真理教、特に広報副部長だった荒木浩を中心に、社会とオウム信者の関わりを内側から撮影したこの作品は、大きな反響を呼んだ。タイトルの「A」は荒木(Araki)のA、オウム(Aum)のAに由来するとされている。
