In his Twilight Zone segment, he depicts the world created by a boy with supernatural powers through cartoon-like visuals reminiscent of Looney Tunes.
Gremlins 2 took an even more experimental approach. Cartoon-like special effects abound, with gremlins rolling their eyes like animated characters or mutating into spider and bat monsters after exposure to poison. The skill of condensing highlights, developed through trailer editing, also informs his feature direction, keeping audiences engaged through rapid developments and outrageous visual gags.
