Log C and ARRIRAW: Choosing Formats for Post-Production
One important feature of ARRI cameras is the choice of recording format. Log C and ARRIRAW are widely used in professional production.
Log C is a color profile designed to preserve a wide dynamic range. Although footage looks low in contrast during shooting, it is ideal for color grading in post-production. Using Log C gives greater freedom to adjust brightness and color across a wider range after filming.
ARRIRAW is ARRI's highest-quality digital format and records uncompressed data. It offers extremely high flexibility in post-production and is often used in high-end projects and productions involving extensive VFX.
Customizing Frame Rate and Shutter Angle
In professional production, it is important to adjust the frame rate to suit a scene's needs rather than use only the standard 24 fps. For action scenes or when slow motion is required, ARRI cameras' high-frame-rate capabilities can capture smooth footage at up to 120 fps.
ARRI cameras also allow shutter angle customization to control cinematic motion blur. Although normally set to 180 degrees, the angle can be narrowed to reduce blur when sharper movement is desired. Conversely, widening the angle is recommended when greater blur is wanted.
